The UK Songwriting Contest and it's community of songwriters has a reputation for excellence in the music industry spanning over 20 years. Every year UKSC participants are featured in local, national and international media outlets with finalists and category winners receiving international attention, coverage and promotion. UKSC entrants are often featured on BBC Radio as well as other major media outlets such as NBC, MTV, Sky TV, ITV and many more. Below you will find just a few of the many success stories from 2023 so far. We encourage all entrants, armed with their certificates and star rating, to approach their own local media as a way of getting their stories and their songs heard.  

7TH JULY - SALTWIRE - CANADA

2022 UKSC Finalist Terra Spencer wins the Commonwealth Song Contest (CSC) representing Canada with her song, 'Brick and Mortar'. This song, which has captured the hearts of thousands, tells the story of an old cotton mill in Windsor - Nova Scotia which played an important part in her childhood. As the roof caved in on this 140 year old building, Terra's moving song, 'Brick and Mortar' explores the gentle art of saying goodbye.  Read the full article here and listen to the winning song here.

24TH MAY - DBS TELEVISION - SAINT LUCIA 

2020 UKSC Semi Finalist in the Open Category - Emmanuel Carlos St. Omer is selected to represent Saint Lucia in the 2022/23 Commonwealth Song Contest. All songs from Commonwealth nations entered into the UK Songwriting Contest are granted automatic entry into the event. Carlos is chosen to represent his country from over 20 thousand song entries. He received widespread international support securing second place in the initial round of public voting.

22ND MAY - SALTWIRE - CANADA 

2022 UKSC Adult Contemporary Category Finalist Terra Spencer is selected out of over 20 thousand songs as one of the seven Grand Finalists in the 2022/23 Commonwealth Song Contest (CSC). Every year UKSC songs from Commonwealth nations are granted automatic entry into the CSC. Terra Spencer receives national media coverage and widespread international support during the round of public voting which saw 15,630 people from around the world take part.

21ST - 23RD  MAY - NEW STRAITS TIMES / DAYAK DAILY / NEW SARAWAK TRIBUNE - MALAYSIA 

2021 UKSC Semi Finalist Belle Sisoski is chosen to represent Malaysia in the 2022/23 Commonwealth Song Contest. All songs from Commonwealth nations submitted to the UKSC get free and automatic entry into the Commonwealth Song Contest. Belle Sisoski is selected as one of the 7 Grand Finalists from over 20 thousand songs. She attracts widespread social media and national media coverage and goes on to win the round of public voting in the contest.

9TH - 10TH MAY - TIMES OF MALTA / MALTA DAILY / THE MALTA INDEPENDENT / TVM NEWS  / LOVIN MALTA / NET NEWS / GAZZETTA DI MALTA

2022 UKSC Under 18s Finalist Emma Cutajar chosen to represent Malta with her song, 'I Miss You' in the 2022/23 Commonwealth Song Contest (CSC). All songs from Commonwealth nations submitted to the UKSC get free and automatic entry into the CSC. During the first round of public voting Emma received widespread coverage across all major news outlets in Malta.

7TH APRIL 2023 - THE COURIER - SCOTLAND 

2022 UKSC Category Winner Alex Birnie's impressive 'second career' as a songwriter covered in Scottish Newspaper, The Courier. Speaking about the UK Songwriting Contest Alex explains, “When you win it opens the door for future songwriting". Alex started songwriting after 45 years as a chartered accountant and his success is a testimony that it is never too late to follow your passions in life.

30TH MARCH 2023 - MUSIC CROWNS 

Feature length article in Music Crowns, a global music artist discovery platform, covering the winners of the 2022 UK Songwriting Contest. With 4.4Million Facebook followers, Music Crowns has a wide reach and this article focusses on some of the stories behind the winning songs of the 2022 contest.

20TH MARCH 2023 - RISING ARTISTS MUSIC BLOG   

2022 UKSC Country Category Winner Glenn Valles has his winning song, 'Looking Up To Heaven' reviewed by Rising Artists Music Blog. In their article they describe his song as a 'beautiful masterpiece' and one which 'holds the capacity to help others who are experiencing grief and loss'. Glenn's winning song has received far reaching media coverage to date in both national and international media outlets and music magazines.

10TH MARCH 2023 - RADIO SLOVAKIA INTERNATIONAL

Two feature length interviews on Radio Slovakia International with Gigi Ann Green, winner of the 2022 Under 18s Category and two of the UKSC judges. Gigi has the opportunity to get her music heard on an international platform and discuss the inspiration behind her songwriting.

2ND MARCH 2023 - RADIO SLOVAKIA INTERNATIONAL

UKSC judges Rachel Walker Mason and Stuart Epps interviewed following Gigi Ann Green's win in the 2022 UK Songwriting Contest under 18's category. The judges talk about Gigi's winning song and discuss more broadly what it takes to succeed in the music industry.

23RD FEBRUARY 2023 - RADIO BATH

UKSC songwriter Sorrel Pitts is featured in a 30 minute long interview on Radio Bath where she plays three of her original songs. Radio DJ Richard Beauvoisin joins in and provides backing on the guitar as she performs live on the radio.

12TH FEBRUARY 2023 - BBC RADIO

UKSC Christian Category Winner and two time 2022 UKSC Finalist Tony Olson has his winning song, 'Only Me' played on Keith Greentree's The Big Country Show on BBC Radio.

11TH FEBRUARY 2023 - OVER 100K YOUTUBE VIEWS

Dr. Azeem Alam, a medical doctor and songwriter from Wimbledon, has reached over 100K YouTube views, and counting, on the video of his winning love song created by the UKSC for the 2021 winners playlist.

8TH FEBRUARY 2023 - BBC RADIO
