There were some very strong entries in the Pop Category that might easily have won if they had not been up against such an outstanding and strong winning song this year. The judges were unanimous in choosing Never Gonna Get Me Back by Alysha Brilla as the clear winner in this category. Alysha is a singer songwriter from Canada and the judges expect to hear some great things from her in the future. The winning song in the Country Category this year is Playing In The Ruins by US songwriter Joe Wrabek. In previous years the Country winners have been classic country songs or pop/country crossover but this year the judges went for something very different. Joe describes himself as a "traditional" country songwriter and this very simple recording reminded CMA award winning UKSC judge and country expert Lucie Diamond of some of the early country artists. The song's very traditional style and recording provides a striking contrast to the song's futuristic post-apocalyptic vision. The winner of the Adult Contemporary Category in 2014 is Neil Fitzpatrick with his song Apart. When the song entered the UKSC Semi Finals earlier this year it received media coverage in the UK (see photo) and it raised thousands of pounds for charity. It has since gone on to win when it was selected as the strongest song in this very popular category this year by the judges. 2014 saw the introduction of the brand new Music Videos Categories. Natasha Duarte's video of Punch Me In Heart was unanimously singled out by the judges as a great classic pop music video and a worthy winner of the category. And for the huge production values, large cast and sheer organization and work behind putting something like this together Winter Wonder by Leigh Haggerwood was also chosen as a joint winner this year. There were some other great music video entries this year, some of them very low budget, some of them no budget at all, and we will be featuring some of these in the New Year as they deserve to be seen. The finalist Music Videos and songwriters are listed below:

This is a new category for 2014 and this song was chosen by the judges as the first winner of this new category. Just Remember is an outstanding, mature and moving entry by 15 year old songwriter Kate Cosentino. The judges were very impressed by this young songwriter and we believe she should have a great future as a songwriter ahead of her. As UKSC judge Mark Cawley said: "Kate is terrific. She is amazing for 15! Rimnum Kuennueg is an unusually  beautiful song in the Thai language (we also have the English translation) from Thai composer Pongpan Channet. The other winner, Make A Change, is an infectious and catchy reggae song with a positive message from Katongo Temba, a Zambian born, British raised Singer/Songwriter from London. This year the contest received a large variety of acoustic works, piano pieces, filmic theme music, orchestral scores, rock and ethnic music and the judges decided to award the winning positions to an orchestral composition by british composer Robin Stevens. UKSC judge Jamie Serafi said: "The title conjures up an image before the first notes are heard and thankfully the opening, expected hymn-like quality completes this expectation effectively. Masterful use of a wide variety of orchestral combinations and techniques in the battle-like middle section with moments of the opening theme cleverly appearing throughout by way of keeping the fluency and underlying musical idea".

There were some really great Christmas Song entries this year in many different styles ranging from traditional carols and hymns to pop songs, novelty tracks, acoustic tracks and choral pieces. The judges had a very difficult time making final decisions but decided in the end to award the winning position to this festive track from Leigh Haggerwood. (Note: This track was also a joint winner in the video category but the Christmas Song judges only heard the audio track and did not know about the video entry win until after the judging).

In 2014 everyone who entered the contest received a gift package worth $100 (approx £80) consisting of $50 worth of songwriting courses and song pitching services at SongU.com plus a $50 six month "Film and TV" membership, including song pitching services, at Broadjam.com. This prize gift package for every entrant was worth approximately five times the entry fee. In addition, all category winners receive international lifetime SCO copyright registrations at SongCopyright.org. Prizes for category winners this year include being featured in the 2014 Results and Awards Video and one winner will be chosen to co write a song with number one hit songwriter and UKSC judge Mark Cawley. All category winners also receive honourary Guild of International Songwriter and Composer memberships, professional music websites and full one year professional memberships at broadjam.com, plus promotion and exposure on the exclusive Best Of UKSC music industry promotional album. Every contestant who takes part in the event receives a frameable Certificate for each song that they enter - there are Winner, Finalist, Semi Finalist, Commended Entry or Participation Certificates for all contestants. Everyone song entered is carefully examined and rated and everyone who enters this competition has the opportunity to be noticed by music industry professionals in the UK and worldwide who follow this event very closely each year looking for new talent.
