SEMI FINALISTS: If your song has been selected as a Semi Finalist it is in the top 20 per cent (one in five) of all entries as rated by the judges. In other words, most songs, four out of five songs entered in the contest this year, did NOT make it through to this stage. If your song was chosen as a Semi Finalist it will continue to the higher judging stages and has the chance to reach the Finals and may even be a Winner.
CONTESTANTS: If your song is marked as "Contestant" this means it has not been selected as a semi finalist - but your song is still eligible to be selected for a Commended Entry Award and these will be announced later in the contest. You will also be told the score that your song was given by the judges. It is possible that some of the highest rated Commended Entries may be moved up to the semi finals as has happened in the past with some songs. The judges scores will be announced in December and this will give a vey good idea of your song's rating and position in the contest. For example, a song that didn't make the semi finals might be scored a 6 which makes it a borderline semi finalist and in the top 30 per cent of entries.
We know that many people will be disappointed if they did not get to the semi finals with their song, but please keep in things in perspective and remember that most of the songs entered in the contest do not make it to the semi finals. Not making the semi finals does NOT mean your song is no good. The standard of this contest is extremely high and it attracts the very best songwriters and many of the songs that do not get into the semi finals are well written by talented writers - but the judges have to draw a line somewhere. The UKSC has an excellent and unequaled international reputation to maintain and the judges know this and they are very strict and have to make very difficult decisions regarding which songs they put through.
FINAL SCORES: The judges scores (from 1 to 10) for every song entered will be given and the list of songs chosen for Commended Entry awards will also be published at the end of the contest later this year. Every entrant will receive aa UKSC Certificate for each song entered.
